1950’s to the 1980’s. The built-up area of Barton changed little between 1883 and the 1950’s and the accompanying maps show the vast expansion which has taken place in the last fifty years. The figures for census years are the most reliable. Those for intervening years are based on well-informed estimates from various sources. A spokesman for the East Staffordshire Borough Council said that another difficulty in obtaining accurate figures is that statistics were often produced for Wards rather than Parishes.
